Two men were wounded--with one of them later dying--in a West Side nightclub shooting overnight, police said.
Few other details had been released by early afternoon, but police said a man shot the two men inside the Transit nightclub, 1431 West Lake St. around 2:30 a.m.
No suspects were in custody, but police said they were reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses in the hopes of identifying the gunman. Calls to the club were not answered today.
One of the victims, Brian King, 28, of the 9700 block of South University Avenue, was taken from the scene to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m., according to a medical examiner's office spokesman. The other victim was being treated this morning at the hospital and reported in good condition.
From Omarr Gilbert
"Last night a tragic event took place at Transit Nightclub. My thoughts and prayers are with B King and his family, may he rest in peace. Through the Grace of God, I'm alive and well, contrary to the rumors of my demise. I was hit in the leg, but I'm in excellent condition.
Thank you for your prayers and concerns....let's stop the violence.
