Kanye & Common sued + Terrence Howard lays the smack down + Playboy

Rapper Kanye West and his record label are being sued by the daughter of a jazz musician who says he sampled her late father's music without permission for the track Gone. West used a sample of Joe Farrell's 1974 song Upon This Rock.

Firrantello, who is also suing rappers Method Man, Redman and Common (Chi City) for using portions from the same song, is seeking damages of at least $1 million and no more copies, sells, or performances of the songs.

Hugh Hefner has signed off on Downey to play him in the movie, with the working title "Playboy." Chicago is expected to be used for the shooting of scenes focusing on the early years of Playboy magazine. A Chicago native, Hefner grew up in Galewood and launched Playboy here before moving the California.

Common has landed a high-profile role in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. It focuses on John Connor, who leads the human race in an epic battle against the machines. Common will star in the movie as a freedom fighter.

R.Kelly and his investors were swindled out of a lot of money during the 'Double Up' tour by promoter Leonard Rowe. A lawsuit has been filed against Rowe. He is being charged with selling shares of the tour to investors and the contract Kelly had stated no shares was to be sold.

Common interview

Common recently did an interview on his new movie Street Kings (opening Friday), growing up in Chicago, and winning an Oscar.
"I don't want to ever appear like I was the poorest kid in the neighborhood or the street thug," says one of the most prominent voices in hip-hop. "I had a good mother who was a teacher and a good stepfather. I went to church every Sunday at the Trinity United Church. My pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has been a big influence in my life in a positive way.
